Marcia Nash

Helping others is a way of life for Ms. Marcia Nash. After earning a sociology degree from USC Aiken in 1993, she worked in the early childhood development and education field as the Executive Director of the Aiken County First Steps program, where she has been for 10 years. The Aiken County First Steps program supports pre-kindergarten programs, literacy, child care, home visitation programs. Marcia has worked with children and families in Aiken County for 25 years; for nine years, she coordinated the Family Literacy/Parenting program at the Pinecrest Site. She worked as a Childcare Specialist for Helping Hands, Inc., a shelter for abused and neglected children, she coached high school girl’s basketball for 5 years at Midland Valley High School and has volunteered as a little league girl’s basketball coach for First Baptist Church of Aiken. Marcia understands the important role an involved father plays in the life of his children because she and her four siblings were raised by their single father in Orangeburg, SC. Her favorite childhood activities were running and playing basketball with her older brothers. That basketball practice paid off when Marcia graduated from high school and was offered a basketball scholarship to attend USC Aiken. She earned her (M.Ed.) Master Degree in Early Childhood from USC Columbia in 1999. Marcia’s appreciation for the support and generosity of those who helped her succeed
prompts her to give back. She sees her community involvement as an opportunity to “pay it forward” by using her knowledge and skills to help someone else. She believe that “you should always keep moving; nothing happens when you are standing still. Whether we give time, money or motivation, we should all get moving and pay it forward”.
