Coach Kay Pounds was born in Augusta and has lived all over the state of Georgia: Statesboro, Savannah, Atlanta, and Athens. During college, she was a volunteer track coach at Tubman Middle School and did an internship with the Augusta University men’s basketball team. She completed her student-teaching at Lake Forest Hills Elementary School and Columbia Middle School. At the end of her student-teaching, Coach Pounds was selected to be part of the edTPA pilot program at Augusta University. She has a bachelors in exercise and sports science, a bachelors in health and physical education, a masters in sports management, and a masters in sports coaching. After college, she had two long-term substitute positions, one at Thomson High School and one at Norris Elementary School, before finding her place at Aiken Elementary School. Coach Kay Pounds is in her third year of teaching at Aiken Elementary School. She enjoys teaching and is always on the lookout for new ideas.
